The Church History ABC’s is a great way for kids across all ages (even adults) to learn about people who contributed to the Christian church history. Now don’t expect to learn everything about the history of the church because all of it is not in this book. It only has enough to cover one person for each of the 26 letters of the alphabet. The big letters on colorful pages are great for helping the little ones learn their alphabet. Each alphabet has words that begins with that letter which is good for sight words to use with kids who are ready for phonics/beginning to read. For the older ones the letters are the beginning of the person’s last name and the person shares with the reader (in a conversational tone) something interesting about him or herself and how they contribute to the church’s history.
Throughout the book you’ll enjoy learning some funny facts about these men and women who have greatly contributed to the church’s history. In the back section there is more detailed information on each person that was covered in the stories. As I mentioned before everything about our church’s history is not covered in this book. There’s so much church history to explore and still more of it happening today. There are also free activity worksheets you can download to go along with each story at the The Church History ABC’s website.
My husband loves learning history. He and my son had a great time reading this book together. They had some interesting conversations as the went along in the book.
