Since my son was 9.5 years old (he’s now 12) he has been known to say things like:
One day when I get married…
One day when I have a wife…
One day when I become a dad…
When I have kids…
Why am I talking about this? Well since he often ponders on these things I knew it was a good idea for us to review the book I’m about to share with you. It is part of the Bower Book’s Bright Future Series which “shares Biblical principles for families in beautiful down-to-earth ways”.
Product Name: The Person I Marry: Things I’ll think about Long before saying “I Do”
Written by: Gary Bower
Illustrated by: Jan Bower
Format: Hardcover, 32 pages
Age Range: all ages (from young children to adult)
“The Person I Marry” was written and illustrated by “award winning” husband and wife team Gary and Jan Bower. They have been married for 32 years and have 12 children and 9 grandchildren. This book is written from a child’s point of view and it’s full of rhyme. It has received wonderful endorsements from Gary Smalley, Eric & Leslie Ludy, and the Duggar Family. It also was awarded "2010 Book of the Year" by the Christian Small Publisher Association. Through reading “The Person I Marry” your children will learn to look for the right character traits and qualities in a future mate. These would be the things that will make a marriage strong like:
Integrity and so much more.
What a way to celebrate true commitment, purity, and true love! This book has some of the most beautiful oil paintings I’ve ever seen (even though I haven't seen an actual hard copy of it). Another thing I liked about this book is the back page that has a place where your child can make a list of the traits they want to look for in a future mate. Check out the video of the book on this page.
Here is what they have to say on their website about their books:
Picture Books for the Entire Family
Beyond the skilled artistry of our picture books is another very rare characteristic - they really do appeal to all ages. Not only do children find our stories fascinating, but adults discover relevent gems just for them sprinkled across each page. And of course, our adorable illustrations appeal to young and old alike.
So if your kids or grandkids are tired of seeing you nod off during storytime, try some family-friendly books that are really for all ages.
Now you may be thinking this is just a book that only appeals to girls but that's not true for us. My 12 year old son really liked listening to me read while he looked at the pictures. We have read this at least 4 times and he enjoys it each time. One disadvantage for me was this: I thought we were going to receive an actual downloadable copy to read but we were given an online link to the book instead. My son said he wants me to buy him the "real" book so he can read it again, look at the pictures, and also have to give to his children some day. I think this will make a great Christmas present to get him. Now that you’ve heard what we think of this book check out what my other crew mates think of “The Person I Marry”.
