The members of the TOS Crew was given a choice of 2 DVDs to review in their Go Science Series. The Go Science Series are Creation based videos featuring demonstrations of various science experiments done by Ben Roy.  You can learn all about him at his Science Zone website.  He also has a Facebook page if you would like to keep up with him there.  “Mr. Roy captivates, motivates, and inspires students to be excited about science, while providing effective instruction based on science phenomena. Each of the 67 spectacular demonstrations of physical or chemical science has a spiritual application and points to our Creator!”

The Go Science Series has of 6 volumes in all.  The titles included are:

Volume 1- Motion: Discovering the Laws of Gravity and Motion
Volume 2- Simple Machines, Sound, and Weather
Volume 3- Magnetism, Engineering, Electricity, and Design
Volume 4- Chemistry, States of Matter, and Life Science
Volume 5- Air and Flight
Volume 6- Water, Space, and the Solar System

The DVDs can be purchased individually for $8.97 or as a set for $47.95. These videos are recommended for ages 6-14. For our review we chose volumes 2 and 3.

Volume 3: Magnetism, Engineering, Electricity, and Design
Some of the demonstrations you will see are:
Monster Magnets,
Making a Compass,
Static Electricity,
Solar Energy,
Color,
Heat Engine, and more.
The Running Time for this video is 54:42 minutes.

Each segment in the videos are 3-6 minutes long which is good if your kids need to watch them in small increments of time. One thing your kids are sure to remember is what Mr. Roy says at the end of each segment…"Every time we learn something about science we learn something about our Creator God”.  My 12 year old son caught on to this after seeing a few segments.  He still remembers those words weeks later.

In the videos there is an audience with children of all ages. I loved how he would ask for volunteers to come up and be his helpers.  This kept them engaged, taking part in the experiments. The experiments you see can’t all be done at home especially without adult supervision. Most of us don’t even have half the supplies in our home that he used for the demonstrations. My son liked watching the videos and even asked if we could get the others in the series. We didn’t sit and watch them all the way through in one day. I let him watch them over a period of 4 days in at least 30 minute increments. When we do science for the week that’s how long we usually spend on it each day. We took a break from our regular studies to watch these videos instead. Believe me he enjoyed that break! To hear more about different opinions on Library and Educational Services and their Go Science DVD Series stop by the TOS Crew blog and check out what my crew mates had to say.
