Our 10th year Homeschooling!
Why did it just dawn on me that I didn't post last year's homeschool plans :/ (I'll just give a few updates on last year in this post). Well we're officially at the point where I can say we've been homeschooling for a decade. WOW!!! Praise God we've made it this far. Workboxes are still part of son's regular routine for organizational purposes. What do we have in the boxes this year? Keep reading and I'll share that with you.
Bible- The Most Important thing You'll Ever Study. We're on Vol.2 and still Notebooking with it as well.
Math- Math U See Pre-Algebra (as I've stated in the past, we’re a little behind in Math but it’s okay because we’re working at his pace).
Language Arts- We finally finished Easy Grammar Plus last year. We're moving on to Grammar of Poetry and reading "The Story of English" by Robert McCrum, William Cran, and Robert MacNeil. I have the books for GoP but not the videos. I'm trying to find some to buy used or we'll just do the monthly streaming on their website as a cheaper route. We need these videos since my son is a visual learning. He won't thrive off just doing text/workbook alone.
Since writing is not one of his strengthens we'll dive into Jump In to see how he does with that. We'll also read and discuss a book called "Powerful Proofreading Skills" by Debra A. Smith and Helen R. Sutton.
We’re halfway done with the last of Sequential Spelling which is book 7. We'll go ahead and complete this. He goes through these pretty fast so we'll be done with it before Thanksgiving :-)
Social Studies/History- Since this is election year we're notebooking all about the process helping him to understand why voting is important and understanding the political platform and policies of the candidates. We're still working on the notebook we started about how our government works on all levels (state, federal, ect.). All that he learns this year will be added to this notebook as well. We also have Around the World in 180 Days. He may want to do some of that as well. I know it seems like a lot of Social Studies but he LOVES learning History and Geography (just like Science) so long as he wants to learn he's allowed to do to his hearts content.
As for the war studies we started before, he has one more he wants to learn about so that will be covered this year as well.
Economics- We're doing Economics for Everybody. Not the monthly subscription from the link. We already have the books and videos here.
Science- We finally finished Apologia’s: Exploring Creation with General Science 2 last year. He really enjoyed it. This year he'll do Apologia’s: Exploring Creation with Physical Science 2.
Health/P.E.- We finished his health studies and finally his P.E. last year. He has 1/2 credit in Health and a full credit in P.E. YAY!!!
Life Skills- Complete daily chores, learn simply cooking skills, do laundry, iron clothes, ect,
Foreign Language- We finished up with Visual Latin 2 last year so he has his Foreign Language credit. YAY!!!
This pretty much sums up our year. As you can see there's lots of learning going on and a harder work load for him. In the end what matters is that he's in God’s Will for his life. Thanks for reading. May God bless you and your families school year too!
