Cookie Butter

Have any of you ever tried cookie butter before? We have heard of it over the last few years but never bought any to try. Last winter I got hooked on Steak n Shake's cookie butter milkshake. It was a magical experience for me. I couldn't get enough of that yummyness. When Sonic started back up with their 1/2 priced shakes during the summer cookie butter was all I kept thinking of.

I noticed recipes popping up all over Pinterest showing how to make your own cookie butter. I wasn't willing to pay for a pricey jar of this stuff at the store. I was glad to find a cheaper alternative. We have only had a basic recipe for a first time try. Keep reading while I show you how to turn

To make cookie butter you will need 2-2.5 cups of cookie crumbs (depending on which kind of cookie you use). You can use any of your favorite (think Oreo, nutter butter, shortbread, ect.). If your cookies have cream in the middle you'll want to scrape that out first. Make the crumbs by placing cookies into your food processor and pulse until it's all crumbs. I used around 50 vanilla wafers to get to 2 cups. Next you want to mix together your melted butter (1/2 stick), sweetened condensed milk (1/2 cup), and 1/4 cup of evaporated milk (or milk of your choice). Slowly pour this mixture into your food processor with the cookie crumbs to blend and make a paste like texture. If its too thin just add in more cookie crumbs.

I served this with some homemade chocolate chip pumpkin bread I made. YUM!!!
