Home School Adventure Co.~ Review

Hello readers joining me today. I’m back to share with you another product we were so blessed to receive through the Homeschool Review Crew.  Keep reading as I share with you my review of Celebrating Manhood- a rite of passage guide from the Home School Adventure Co.

Home School Adventure Company

The Home School Adventure Co. is a homeschooling family that is “committed to helping other families cultivate and defend a biblical worldview.” The founder Stacy Farrell is a writer, speaker, and teacher. The Home School Adventure Co. offers “engaging resources to inspire and equip parents to educate and raise children to be loving, compassionate, strong, and wise”. They believe it is crucial for students to be equipped to understand the times we now live often known as the “Age of Information”. They seek to “teach students from 6th-12 grades how to write skillfully, think critically, and speak articulately as they explore the world of ideas”.

Celebrating Manhood a Rite of Passage Guide

We were sent a digital (PDF) copy of Celebrating Manhood- a rite of passage guide to review. This is a biblically based, step by step guide designed to help Christian parents celebrate a significant milestone in their son’s life. When I received my copy I immediately went to look up the meaning of key terms to help me understand what I was about to dive into. If you did not already know, the meaning of rite is “a ceremony or formal act to observe a religious, custom or other procedure”.  Now that we know that let’s go further. A rite of passage is “a ceremony or event marking an important stage in someone’s life like a birth, or the transition from childhood to adulthood”. Once I had the meaning of those key terms it made more sense to me what the author had in mind.

The cost of the guide is $14.95 for the digital edition and $18.95 for the print edition. It is over 27 pages long and consists of the following:

          invitation     question cards

-The author’s personal story
-a blueprint of how to go about hosting your own special evening of celebrating your son’s transition from boyhood to manhood. There is a suggested guest list, activity ideas, and it shows mom how to be the host and step out of the way for the men to be alone.
-Invitation template
-Question Cards, ect.

Celebrating Manhood- a rite of passage guide made me more aware of how important it is for young men to have other men in their lives to guide them through the sharing of wisdom, their life experiences, as well as practical examples of the life of adulthood they are about to enter. I shared what I read in this guide with my husband. Here is what he had to say:

The guide is well thought through and put together. This is something that’s missing from our western culture. Adolescence is a very critical time for young males. It can get really confusing trying to understand all they are going through without the proper guidance. They go from puberty to deciding what path to take after high school on to having to provide for and lead their wife and children. Celebrating Manhood is a must in our society because masculinity has been downplayed and perverted to be something outside of God’s original plan and purpose.

The celebration ceremony is suggested for boys ages 14+. It can be done during any special time in their life like a birthday or graduation. Our son will be 18 in October. With him being special needs we are not in a hurry to do this for him. We plan to wait to celebrate his manhood until after he has finished being homeschooled. We hope by that time he will have matured more to understand and appreciate what this special time is all about. At the end I plan have this poster that was included ready for his father to present to him.

You're welcome Stacy! I really enjoyed doing the review and thank you for allowing me to review it. I would not have known about a young man's rite of passage had I not read your helpful guide :)
