IFTD~ Mad as a Hatter

Today's Idiom is "Mad as a Hatter".

CJ's guess: To be tremendously angry.
Correct meaning: To be crazy or behave very strangely.
His sentence: That guy in the street is mad as a hatter.

Ah... but you explain why hatters were crazy? It was because they used to treat the felt (that they used to make the hats) with liquid mercury, and exposure to mercury over a long period of time causes one to lose one's mind and appear "crazy"!

Yes I have to make it simple enough for my special needs son to understand so I kept it at that. Thanks for letting us know about that.
